Students submitted letter to ECT to examine the case of applying membership of the Palang Pracharath Party

 

On 27 December 2018, at 13.00 a.m., a group of university students called Din Esan from the Faculty of Law, Ubon Ratchathani University, went to the Election Commission of Yasothon Province for submitting letter about the authority who forced people to apply membership of the Palang Prachrath Party. Therefore, people will receive cashless welfare cards at Loeng Nok Tha District, Yasothon Province.

 

The letter identified that owing to a Facebook user named “ Junior who is a super Saiyan, destroys the Vegeta planet, and goes to Namek planet” posted video while he was lining up to get a cashless welfare card at Ban Wai, Samakee Sub District, Loeng Nok Tha Distict, Yasothon Province. He identified that there was an advertisement which invited people to sign up and apply membership of the Palang Pracharath Party. If some people did not apply membership of the Palang Pracharath Party, they will not receive cashless welfare cards.

 

This action was guilty according to the Organic Act on Political Parties of 2017.

 

Article 30 prescribes that political parties or persons cannot provide, offer, or promise to provide money, property, or other benefits directly or indirectly so as to persuade any person to apply membership of that party unless it is right or privilege that a person would receive as a member.

 

This power was exercised according to Article 14 of the Organic Law on the Election Commission of 2017. Thus, the Election Commission of Yasothon must carry on examination or investigation so as to find the truth or evidence immediately.  

 

After having submitted letter, Thapanapong, a fourth- year university student, revealed that the Din Esan group felt worried about performance of the Election Commission of Thailand and viewed that the action in the video was clearly guilty according to the Organic law on Election. Therefore, it was essential that the authorities seriously investigate this case. Furthermore, while submitting letter, an authority said that they had sent it to the Central of the Election Commission of Thailand for investigation already, but it cannot be revealed the process.  

 

Thapanapong gave further information that in Ubon Ratchatani and Yasothon, many people had witnessed this incident. However, it did not appear on media. Right now, his group still keeps an eye on the election that is going to happen. Also, they submitted letter to the Election Commission of Yasothon because a subject that they had studied lectured about the way to investigate the state power. Therefore, they knew that they can send their letter which it was one of the way to examine the state power.

 

Moreover, the Din Esan was the activity group gathering of university students from the Law Faculty of the Ubonrachatani University. The main goal of the group was to construct the democracy culture against the actions that violated human rights.
